On 14th August, 8 teams consisting of 14 students each arrived on the playground to play FREEDOM CUP and sow the seeds of Nationalism among the viewers. Each of the teams was named according to the National Anthem- Banga Brigadiers, Maratha Maharajas, Punjab Pirates, Gujarat Gladiators, Vindhya Vikings, Sindhu Strikers, Dravida Dominators, and Utkala United. Their energetic play effortlessly symbolized the country’s powerful youth and their longing and love for freedom.

IEM-TCS-FDP program on “Blockchain Technology” organized by IEM-HRDC was organized on the 15th June, 2022 at Science Auditorium, Gurukul campus. We had guest speaker Mr. Abhishek RoyChoudhury, Platform Architect at TCS Research. The FDP has two sessions. Mr. RoyChoudhury started the session with the basics of Blockchain technology. He explained where the technology should be used in detail. He explained how permissioned and permissionless Blockchain differs. He also describes the idea of the Merkel chain. Apart from the conceptual and theoretical foundation, in the second session, he demonstrated how to build Blockchain and showed a case study solved by him. The FDP was followed by question and answer sessions, where the participants actively interacted. The sessions were highly appreciated by the participants.

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Department of Basic Science & Humanities, IEM, Kolkata has successfully organized and concluded the “4th International Conference on Current Trends in Materials Science & Engineering (CTMSE 2022)”. The conference has focused on new and important advances in many different yet cohesive areas within materials science and engineering, which can be beneficial for the society and improve our day-to-day life. This conference provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers to discuss the most recent innovations, trends and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions to be adopted in different areas of materials science and engineering. In this conference we had 4 plenary sessions, 1 keynote talk, 1 technical session and 5 contributed sessions. CTMSE 2022 proceeding will be published as AIP Conference Proceedings (Scopus indexed). IEM-IETE Students’ Forum has been successfully inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Joyanta Kumar Roy (Chairman, IETE Kolkata) at IETE Kolkata Auditorium. The other dignitaries present in the ceremony are Dr. Aniruddha Nag (Secretary, IETE Kolkata), Dr. Anirban Das (Treasurer, IETE Kolkata), Prof. Dr. Jyotsna Kumar Mandal (Distinguished Speaker from Kalyani University), Mr. Jeet Banerjee (IETE Member).

*Brahma Kumaris' Event on -"Protect inner well-being, Reduce Stress and Promote Happiness” organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering was completed successfully on 16th August 2022. It was an enriching session which was followed by the celebration of “Raksha Bandhan”.*

Mr. Sohang Sengupta is the Founder of ZeroDollarSecurity and Senior Partner for Cibertix Technologies LLP, has always harbored an acute passion for Cyber Security, ever since the beginning of his +2. His knowledge in Cyber Security and the prestigious selection at the KWHS Top 30 Young Leader, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business helped him bag his first internship, even before starting college, with one of the NIFTY 50 companies of India. He was the youngest member of the IEDC Cell of IEM and founded the first Cyber Security Cell under IEDC. He has been appointed as the Chief Cybersecurity Mentor at the Centre of Excellence, ZeroDollarSecurity at Jadavpur University. Adding to that Sohang has also been a speaker at NASSCOM, Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce and Trade, Confederation of Indian Industries, Indian Chamber of Commerce to name a few. Sohang currently is the co-founder of a 2.6 Million Dollar Stealth Company operating in the Student Community segment. Mr. Sohang Sengupta was the speaker of the session conducted on 11th August, 2022. He talked about key skills required by the students to become a professional. Mr. Sohang advised the students to Work hard and to know their own worth. He suggested they learn the skill and “know-how” to sell themself. He also shared innumerable anecdotes with the students from his life to emphasize the same. He asked the students to figure out what they are good at and better their knowledge in the same area. He said this will bring them success in their professional life. The event was conducted in offline mode with 87 active participants.

We are honored to receive "The Harbinger of Educational Transformation", by the United States Consul General to Kolkata Ms. Melinda Pavek, at the BrandEdge Conference on August 17, 2022 at the ITC Sonar in Kolkata, India.

On the 15th of August, IEM Celebrates India's independence day where students, faculties, and staff members pay tribute to the Nation and freedom fighters of India. It is a remarkable day we honor and respect all our freedom fighters who fought for India's freedom.  Prof. Dr. K. P. Ghatak hosted the flag and delivered the speech on Independence day. Our principal Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Bar gave a motivational speech followed by Flag hoisting and National Anthem. Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti, Director Of IEM, focuses on the rights and duties of every Indian citizen. The celebration of independence day ends with performances by students about our independence day.

An Alumni orientation program was organized by IEM Mechanical Department. 9 Alumni turn up to mentor our current students. They are working in Coal India, Blue star, Hitachi, PWC, TCS, Cognizant, Lexmark, and other industries.
