Teaching is a profession that teaches all other professions. A day is kept aside to remember all the teachers. This day is celebrated in commemoration of Dr. Radhakrishnan who was a well-known diplomat, scholar, and teacher. To carry forward this tradition, Institute of Engineering & Management, Kolkata celebrated this occasion with much vigor and enthusiasm. The program started at 4.00 pm on 5th September on the IEM Gurukul campus. A professors from different departments gathered at Satyasai Auditorium of the Gurukul campus. A portrait of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrisnan drawn by a Student was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Satyajit Chakraborty, Director of IEM, and Dr. Arun Kumar Bar, Principal of IEM. After that various cultural activities were organized by students. At the end, they felicitate them in their ways and gifted them a pen.

Prof. Amit Konar, FNAE, FWAST is currently a Professor in the department of Electronics and Tele-Communication Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. He earned his B.E. degree from Bengal Engineering College, Sibpur in 1983, and his M.E., M. Phil. and Ph.D.degrees, all from Jadavpur University in 1985, 1988 and 2004 respectively. Prof. Konar has published 17 books and over 350 research papers in leading international journals and conference proceeding. He has supervised 30 PhD theses and 290 Masters’ theses. He is a recipient of AICTE-accredited Career Award for Young Teachers for the period: 1997-2000. He is nominated as a Fellow of West Bengal Academy of Science and Engineering in 2010 and (Indian) National Academy of Engineering in 2015. Prof. Konar has been serving as an Associate Editor of several international journals, including IEEE Transactions of Fuzzy Systems and IEEE Transactions of Emerging Trends in Computational Intelligence. His current research interest includes Cognitive Neuroscience, Brain-Computer Interfaces, Type-2 Fuzzy Sets and Multi-agent Systems. Prof. Amit Konar was the speaker of the Research Talk session conducted on 2nd September, 2022. He talked about key skills required by the students to become a researcher and also shared thoughts about his own research domain, new research era on Brain-ComputerInterfacing.Prof. Konar suggested the students that Pattern Analysis Approach is of great interest to the researches, graduate students in today’s scenario. He provides a thorough and insightful introduction on how Brain-Computer Interfacing can be effectively utilized for rehabilitation. He also advised them how to utilize the computational tools of diverse domains to implement the given problem. He inspires the students to prepare themselves for their own research and also demonstrates direction for the future research through new innovative technologies such as EEG, fNIRs and JACO Robot Arms. At the end of the session, Prof. Konar also gave an open choice for the students to work in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Jadavpur University to explore them by doing hands on experiments on the sophisticated modern devices present in the lab. An interactive question answer session was also there, where Prof. Konar clarified every doubt of the participants solemnly. The event was conducted in online mode with 156 active participants.

IEM Kolkata students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering have proved their mettle at Smart India Hackathon (SIH 2022) by being the winner of this national event. Smart India Hackathon 2022 is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives. It is organised by the Ministry of Education, MoE's Innovation Cell, Government of India and AICTE. At the #SIH Senior Software Edition, Team 404_NOT_FOUND which is the team of students of IEM, CSE, has been declared as the Winner (All-India) in solving their problem statement, organised by DRDO.Problem Statement: Develop a simple but effective Tele-consultation application for farmers to facilitate agriculture. On 22nd August, 2022, the Orientation Session of IEMCC 2K22 was conducted. It was inaugurated by the speech of Prof. Sumanta Chakraborty who enlightened all the students present with his journey of programming and guided the right path to follow along with giving wonderful tips to succeed and win any upcoming challenge. His speech was followed by the respected HOD of the CSE department, Prof. Dr. Indraneel Mukhopadhyay, who threw light on the benefits and applications of programming as well as boosting the student’s confidence for the upcoming hardships. He promised to help in any way in the future. The previous leads Girish, Shubho, Saloni, and Sneha Rakshit were felicitated for their wonderful contribution to making this whole club successful. This was followed by the official disclosure of the IEMCC 2K22 website and IEM Coding Club which was earlier named Codechef (IEM). A brief description of the club was given to all the new members and the leads of the session 2022-23 were introduced. Then, the CWC of the session 2021-22 was felicitated. The Orientation Session soon came to an end with an enthusiastic introduction of new leads themselves followed by a quick photo session.  

Computer vision is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that allows computers and systems to extract useful information from photos, videos, and other visual inputs, and to conduct actions or make recommendations based on that data. If artificial intelligence allows computers to think, computer vision allows them to see, watch, and comprehend. The Faculty Development Program on Machine Learning Applications in Computer Vision aimed to improve our understanding of how Computer Vision works and how it is employed in a variety of industries, including energy and utilities, manufacturing, and automotive. It was a gathering of researchers and faculty members who got together to discuss ideas and share methodologies, resources, and experiences. It consisted of an eleven-day program featuring a mix of scientific and technological sessions. like every year this year also IEM celebrated International Yoga day. It was celebrated on 21st June 2021 under the guidance of the Sports Department in which students from all the IEM campuses actively participated and made the event a successful one.

Mr. Rahul Saha, Lead Data Scientist Associate Consultant of TCS delivered a speech on STREAM ANALYTICS. The program was organized by the IEM IT department on the Ground floor, 3rd Seminar Hall of Gurukul Campus from 4 PM onward on 30th August 2022.

On 20th August, 2022 “Kolkata Heritage Walk” was organized by Vivekananda Kendra Paschimbanga Pranta, Kolkata Nivedita Shakti & Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata on the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Rishi Aurobindo, 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose & 75th Years of Indian Independence. The walk was held from Sri Aurobindo Bhavan to Netaji Bhavan. A total of around 50 students and faculty members from IEM participated in the walk.  

On 16th August a cultural program was organized to celebrate Independence day in IEM. Students actively showcased their skills in Dancing, Singing, Speaking, Recitation, and Band Music. Over 200 students attended the celebrations and about 20 faculty members.  The Chief Guest, Colonel Saptarshi Chakrabarty was felicitated by the faculty, who later indulged the students in an exciting question and answer session. The program began with the national anthem and concluded with the soulful chords of the national song. The program so the enthusiastic participation of 30 students and 20 volunteers. Their connection to their nation was palpable in their cheers of ‘Jai Hind’!
