In alignment with Vision 2030, the Department of Management of the Institute of Engineering & Management, Kolkata, and the PhD Cell of the University of Engineering and Management, Kolkata, successfully hosted the 1st Doctoral Research Colloquium (DRC-2024) on September 13-14, 2024. The event was designed to foster a culture of high-quality research within management education.

The financial conclave and literacy quiz were successfully completed on September 14, 2024. Dignitaries such as Mr. Rishi Khator, Managing Partner at Chunder Khator & Associates, and Mr. Moloy Biswas, Regional Director of CDSL, took part in the event, along with a few other esteemed guests. A total of 11 teams from different colleges across Kolkata participated in the quiz. It was a truly enlightening session for all the participants.

IEEE R10 Robotics Competition at Tokyo's Meiji University and the SYWL Congress 2024 at National Youth Centre was an incredible journey! Team Agrian, secured a place in the top 10 among 22 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The "Train the Trainers" program for school teachers, a flagship mission of the International Society of Waste Management, Air, and Water, was successfully organized by the Mechanical Engineering Department, IEM Salt Lake, at the CII Auditorium, Management House Campus. The program, titled Catch Them Young: Zero Waste & Circular Economy in Campus, saw participation from over 100 teachers representing 70 schools across West Bengal. The event aimed to promote sustainable practices and circular economy principles within school campuses.

We were pleased to announce the successful completion of the hackathon on "Frontier Applications of Big Data Analytics in Healthcare Informatics," organized by the Department of CSE (AIML) and CSBS, in association with the IEM Center of Excellence for Data Science. This national-level competition saw participation from around 40 teams across India, each showcasing their innovative ideas. Seven teams were selected for the final evaluation. On 30th August 2024, the winners were announced in the presence of external evaluator Prof. (Dr.) Kuntal Dey, Adjunct Faculty Member at IIIT Guwahati and Tech R&D Sr. Principal at Accenture Labs, Bangalore.

The Department of Basic Science and Humanities at the Institute of Engineering and Management, in association with HRDC, UEM, and IEM Group, Kolkata, organized a five-day Faculty Development Program on "The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Communication" from 2nd to 6th September 2024. Esteemed speakers from both academia and industry led the sessions. On 2nd September 2024, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajoy Chatterjee, VC of UEM Jaipur, conducted a session from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Three online sessions were held on 3rd, 4th, and 5th September by eminent members of the ELT@I association. On 6th September, the final day, Prof. Ayan Panja and Mr. Snehan Biswas conducted a workshop on Generative AI and Prompt Engineering.

Our IEM Saltlake team won 1st prize in the World Robotics Championship 2024's Innovation Challenge, outperforming 150 teams. Congratulations to Debajyoti Mitra (CSE-AIML), Pratyusha Chatterjee (CSE-AIML), Soumanka Sarkar (EE), Shreyan Kundu (CSE-AI), Nirban Roy (CSE-IoT), and Soumalya Mallick (ECE) for their exceptional achievement and innovative approach. We were immensely proud of their success. The project was developed under the mentorship of Dr. Tanima Bhowmik, Prof. Ayan Kumar Panja, and Prof. Amartya Mukherjee, jointly at the Center of Excellence for Advanced Communication and Intelligent Computing (IEM) and IEMA R&D Pvt. Ltd.

National Space Day 2024 was celebrated by the IEM Institute of Fundamental Research (IIFR), in collaboration with the Department of Basic Science and Humanities and the Rotary Club of Salt Lake Silicon Valley, on 26th August 2024 at the IEM Management House. The event featured two major highlights: a virtual tour of India's first human space mission, GAGANYAAN, and a fascinating session on space exploration using Arduino. Attendees were immersed in the advancements of space technology, making the celebration both educational and inspiring.
