IEM E-Cell Entrepreneurship Series: Story no 4
IEM E-Cell Entrepreneurship Series: Story no 4
IEM E-Cell Entrepreneurship Series: #Story no-4:   Recycling and sustainibility are the way forward for a greener, conscious, healthier lifestyle and overall wellbeing. So, we sat down with the team of Wealth Waste, an innovative startup founded by some students of IEM. Read on to find out their ideology and inspiration behind this fast rising company.   "Do you really think that plastic is being conserved extensively? Have you taken any step to reduce the usage of plastics? The plastic flowing into the oceans and lakes fill up the land fills and has become a global threat. Here we come into the picture. This venture was started with an idea to minimise the plastic usage and gift a new life to our Mother Earth. Our products are made from recycled materials and are almost fully biodegradable. We use recycled materials ( i.e. paper, cardboard etc) to manufacture our products, thus increasing and promoting the re usability of waste. In the future, we have to find a way to manage our natural resources, we start now. We are trying to make some use of our waste paper and drive change for the good. Our products are made of Eco friendly materials and the usage of plastics has been minimised and we obtain our materials from recycled wastes. The products are completely biodegradable. Our venture has come a long way. We completed one year in May, and in this time we had many achievements. We represented our venture at Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Smart Maker Faire , India International Science Festival and others. We also have received many honours and awards, especially one from the PM Office. On National Science day 2020, we were also invited to MKH Sancheti School Nagpur to be the judges at their science model exhibition. In the COVID-19 situation we continued to promote awareness via our social handles and also collected donations and distributed rations to the more less privileged sections of the society. We believe in making a change for the good, and envision a green future and a better world. Waste is Innovation, is our motto."   We commend these students for their extraordinary feats and work, and are glad to count them as our members. We wish for them to achieve all their aspirations and continue to make us ever prouder to be associated with them.   #IEM #UEM #Youngminds #entrepreneurs #entrepreneurship #recycling #renewable #greentech #Greenworld #gogreen   Article courtesy- Prof. Avijit Bose, IEM

Foreign Distinguished Lecture by Prof. Thilo Stadelmann on 14th July 2020
IEM-UEM in association with SMART Society, USA invites all Alumni, Students, Faculty and Staff to register for and attend IEM/UEM *FOREIGN DISTINGUISHED LECTURE*.   Speaker : Prof. Thilo Stadelmann, ZHAW School of Engineering in *Winterthur, Switzerland,* and the scientific *director* of ZHAW digital.   *Topic:* The Fundamentals of AI   *Date*: July 14 th, 2020   *Time*: 2:30 PM (IST)   *Link* : https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6314385735295820302   *Short biography* : Thilo Stadelmann is professor of computer science at the ZHAW School of Engineering in *Winterthur, Switzerland* , and the scientific director of ZHAW digital. He received his Ph.D. from *Marburg University, Germany* , in 2010 for his research in multimedia analysis and voice recognition, and worked in different engineering and leadership roles within the automotive industry for several years. His current research focuses on applications of deep learning to diverse kinds of pattern recognition tasks on audio and visual data from the medical and industrial domain, where robustness and interpretability are key. Thilo is the co-founder and former head of the ZHAW Data Science Laboratory, board member and co-founder of the Swiss Alliance for Data-Intensive Services and a Fellow of the ECLT European Centre for Living Technology in Venice, Italy.   *Abstract* :   This lecture introduces the academic field of artificial intelligence (AI) on laymen's terms and is thus suitable for students all disciplines. The lecture explores the foundations of the field ("what is AI?"), the reasons why it is trending since several years, and sheds some light on how the specific AI methodology of deep learning works. It ends with an outlook to a potential future of the world with AI.   *Note* : After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. *All participants will receive a participation certificate after the webinar.

IEM-IEDC Tech Series: Project Number 3
IEM-IEDC Tech Series: Project Number 3
IEM-IEDC Tech Series: Project Number 3-   As technology evolves to take on newer, unexplored shapes and previously niche software makes its mark on mainstream machinery, AR-VR is a field which stretches the boundaries of reality and imagination, and will leave its impact on every sector.   Two of our students, Rajarshi Lahiri and Ayon Chattopadhyay have undertaken a project, AR scanner, to provide a more immersive experience for everyday life. Their project utilises the Unity game engine along with the underlying AR technology to create a virtual 3D object, which can be pivoted through any angle and point, above a 2D picture or print. The virtual object can be viewed on a smartphone screen, when the back camera is pointed towards the printed image. Viewers can interact with the object by changing the viewing angle and taking the object apart to understand its construction better. This caters to everyday regular objects as well as retailers, research, education, medicine, and any other field images pertain to.   Their passion to make teaching more inclusive, aid students to better their grasp on difficult subjects, support researchers to have easier access to rare 3D designs, and allow better medical facilities, and the lack of availability of such, have fueled this project. This also levels the playing field for distance learning students and online curriculum, since the learners can get a real life feel, even from their homes. They can learn how each object was envisioned from the very beginning to create a real life connect with their field of study.   We laud our members for this unique project, and commend them for their dedication and determination to fulfill their aim. We hope they find success in every aspect in the future, and go on to create more brilliant and inspiring projects.   #IEM #innovation #appdevelopment #AR #VR #Entrepreneurship #youngminds #technology #science #3D   Article Courtesy: Prof. Avijit Bose, iem
