The IEEE IEM SB recently conducted a webinar series named RISE for the college students, which, later was extended to college students all over the nation. The aim of the series was to help students know about the recent ongoing in the field of technology and how people, like them, have adapted to this lockdown. Hence, we decided to invite speakers who are students presently or have graduated recently who have made a mark in their field and had an idea about the difficulties students might face during this time. Their presentation was followed by a QnA session. We hoped having a less age gap between students and speakers would encourage our audience to be more open towards their doubts and difficulties they face in this lockdown. The event hosted 3 webinars and it was a success with the students and we received great feedback from both the students and the speakers.
The First Webinar: Webinar on Python, Deep-Learning and Computer Vision
The first webinar was important as it would set the tone of the webinars to be followed. The speaker invited for the event was Mr. Gaurav Sethia, a student from college BMSIT, Bangalore. In addition, IEEE Student Branch of BMSIT was interested in our project and agreed to publicise the event in IEEE Bangalore Section as well. Gaurav is an active IEEE Member and also the winner of the recent conducted IEEE SPRISE. Having such participation and an experienced speaker garnered a positive feedback for the Webinar. IEEE Webinar enables the students to get in touch with the speaker as well. The speaker, hence, shared his linkedIn profile with the students after the QnA session was over.
The Second Webinar: Webinar on How to ace Placement Interviews
The First Webinar was on a technical aspect mainly focused on coders and ML enthusiasts. As organizers, we had planned the event to cover all aspects of student’s area of focus. One of the key areas is placement. We planned to have a webinar on how do we ace the placement interviews and the scenario of the job market in these times. For such purpose, we decided no one could better address the college students than a graduate from our college itself. Hence, we invited Mr.Shekhar Sonthalia, a pass out from the college. He guided the students all about the placement scenario and what one should do in order to secure a good job at the end of their course. His presentation was followed by a QnA session after which he shared his linkedIn profile with the audience to get in touch.
The Third Webinar: Webinar on Tips and Tricks to crack CAT
We realized many students hope to sit for exams and go for post graduate studies. CAT is one such examination where the candidate is not only required to write the exam well but also to ace the interview process only after which she is allowed admission to prestigious institutions of India. For this event, we invited Ms. Sreejita Gupta, a pass out from our college and currently in IIM Ranchi. She discussed various aspects about the exam and also shared tips about facing the interview. Many students had their doubts and all of it was answered within time.
Thus concluded our Webinar Series RISE.
The students taking part in this webinar received a participation e-certificate and the volunteers received an e-certificate as well and an additional e-certificate was provided to the ones who worked efficiently to make this event a success.
