Department

The Department of Business Management of IEM-ASHRAM campus runs BBA(H) Course under MAKAUT (Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology), formerly known as WBUT (West Bengal University of Technology).
Intake of students in each year is 120.

The Department intends to give concepts of management theories and practices. Apart from the course curriculum the Department runs a special course named ‘VALUE ADDED PROGRAMME’ for the BBA(H) students. The aim of this programme is to prepare students as MARKET READY resources, here we impart knowledge dealing with logical reasoning, problem-solving, data representation, managing complexity and situation handling. Under the able guidance of our eminent faculty members, our students become experts in solving case studies, preparing advertisements, dealing with day to day as-well- as strategic HR-Issues in the organization and analysing stock market and financial investment . Every year students of BBA(H) department go to different organizations for two internships one in summer and the other one is in winter. The department has its own Entrepreneurship Cell where we nurture the entrepreneurial skills of the students , so that, they become ready for opening their own start-ups. Once in a year the students of this department organize ‘MINI-MART’ – a business initiative at our institute premises and there they showcase their own business plans . Every year the students participate in different management competitions and win laurels. The department organizes Management Development Programmes (MDPs) every year for the corporates. Some of the regular participants of the MDPs organised by us are from Peerless, India Dairy, DPSC Ltd., Andrew Yule, CMRI Hospital, Tech Mahindra, Pentacon, Bridge-n-Roof, DVC, Naba Diganta Water Management Ltd. etc.

The uniqueness of this department lies in the fact that we accept students from varried background and from different qualities and after three years of regorous training we prepare them as ‘ Ready Resource’ for the organizations. Discipline is the key of the departmental success. This department always gives their initiatives in finding and implementing new pedagogy of teaching, such as implementing Film and Analysis method, Experiential Learning, Case Study methods, Role Playing methods, etc. We believe that the effort of our faculty members in the above mentioned areas sharpen the edge of the skills and abilities of our students . With this infrastucture we try to provide our best to improve our students. Research is the protoplasmic element of this department. Faculty members of this department publish their papers in National and International journals, books and present papers in the conferences in each year.
The Scope: The three-year bachelor programme in business administration moulds all the aspirants not only into a market-ready professionals, but also the targets of the reputed management institutes, both in India and abroad. In the post-graduate programmes also our students show enviable performance. The department pays a very high emphasis on case study teaching method as an important pedagogical tool. Message from HOD

The Department of Business Management (BBA-H), Institute of Engineering & Management believes in three-level agenda, first, making a conducive classroom environment, second, dissemination of knowledge and third, the application of knowledge. Apart from regular classroom training, here we offer the management education through innovative pedagogy like business case study sessions, summer and winter internship programs, research and value added programs including industry speaks. We are proud of our pool of faculty members, who are the real torch-bearers of our Department.We believe that management education isincomplete only through textbook teaching.The innovative teaching methodologies adopted by the faculty members offer the students an in-depth knowledge of modern management. It enables them to utilize advanced conceptsof management and prepare for key decision-making.We have set up a separate cell for industry-academia interfaceto make the pedagogy more industry-centric.
From the very inception, this Department has been putting strong emphasis on the application of management knowledge by organizing business case study competitions, sending students to different management events and organizing management games. The Department has endeavored to project its faculty members as mentors who develop students and stimulate their growth beyond the classroom boundaries. Students’ counselling sessions practiced by the Professors is a part of this mentoring process. We offer special grooming sessions for the job aspirants and for the higher studies. We organize campus placements for the interested students.

About

The Management department of Institute of Engineering and Management is the oldest department of the college established in the year 1989 located in Sector V, Salt Lake Electronic Complex, the IT hub of West Bengal. The Institute offers 2- Year Full-Time MBA Program affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Program approved by AICTE.
The objectives of these programs are to cater to the requirement of the industry by providing quality management professionals with managerial knowledge and skills and for managing the business. We lay emphasis on outcome-based learning. Besides imparting theoretical knowledge, the curriculum stresses on developing communication skill, problem analysis, and decision-making skills. Hence, internship, industry projects, presentations, and dissertation form an integral part of a student’s learning. Teaching in the department is highly practical and focused on the requirement of the industry as it is evolved through constant interaction with leading professionals who are a part of the Industry and Academia.
Having collaborations with foreign universities and companies students now get the opportunity to take part in international study tours, industry visits, and conferences.
Leading companies across India comes for on campus placements as well as pool campus placement at Department of Management. Nearly all students are placed before the completion of the course.     The College of Management, as an academic unit of IEM, has its distinct place as a national business school. The department currently runs AICTE approved full-time MBA program of two years affiliated to MAKAUT and autonomous PGDM program of two years. The department provides a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge that match well with the short term & long term requirements of the industry. The department has experienced and young full-time core Faculty in all functional areas of management, who are engaged in teaching, research and outreach activities.
    The department also has many Visiting Faculty from premium Business School and Guest Faculty from the industry who add value to our programs. The expertise of Faculty is the main strength of the department that facilitated us to have a distinctive national professional standing. The department offers its Faculty opportunities for research, consultancy, academic independence and freedom to explore new expertise. The department has a strong tri-mentoring system which aims to develop managers and entrepreneurs who contribute to the nation’s agenda of growth and command respect in society.
