The Department of Information Technology, at the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Salt Lake, Kolkata came into existence in 1999 with a Vision “To produce Creators of Creative Technological Solutions” for the benefit of Engineering, Science and Technology and the Nation on a larger scale. The Electronics and Communication Department is one of the oldest engineering departments of Institute of Engineering and Management. Accredited by the NBA and approved by AICTE it was established in the year 1996 under the affiliation of Kalyani University and subsequently under MaulanaAbulKalam Azad University of Technology (erstwhile West Bengal University of Technology). Right from its inception, it aimed towards imparting quality education with special emphasis on technical knowledge. The department started its postgraduate course in VLSI and Microelectronics since the year 2006. Every year close to 180 students in B-Tech and 18 students in M-Tech get admitted to this department. With the growing demand of Electrical Engineers in the core sectors of Government and private industries, the Department of Electrical Engineering of Institute of Engineering & Management, is making best efforts to produce highly trained, employable and capable technocrats who can take up the challenges of the real world. The Electrical Engineering Department has specialized faculties in all important areas of Electrical Engineering such as power system, power electronics & drives, control & automation, measurements, machines and signal processing. The academic and research activities in the department focus on the frontier areas of Electrical Engineering such as power quality studies, applications of micro processors & micro controllers, smart grid design, non-conventional energy sources and its system integration with the main power grid etc.
