Annual Management Fest

‘Management fest’ is the event that every student eagerly waits for. Apart from the fun, frolic, and platform that it offers to students to exhibit their talents, the fest is also an acid test of students’ managerial skills.

 

SRJAN is the annual Management fest celebrated by students of MBA at Institute of Engineering & Management, Management House campus every year during February- March. It was incepted in the year 2009 and since then, the best minds from b-schools across Kolkata compete to test their business mettle. The Fest is famous for its creative challenging tasks, best in class hospitality and unlimited fun.

 

SRJAN 2K19 had a spectacular two days buzz of enthusiastic participants on 6th, & 7th of April 2019. It was filled with ideas, innovation, creativity, enjoyment and enthusiasm contributed by the best minds from all across the city. Some of the most notable colleges & Universities who participated include:

 

Ashutosh College, Srisikshayatan College, Techno India, Saltlake, George College, Amity University, Bhawanipur Gujrati Educational Society, Viswa Bharti University, Adamas University, University of Engineering & Management (UEM) among others.

 

Welcome, that’s how it all started! SRJAN 2K19 began on April 6, 2019 with big bang where eminent personalities honoured the event with their presence.

Mr. Rajendra Khandelwal, Consul of Niger, President, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce & Managing Director, Dhanwantary Medicare & Research Centre Pvt. Ltd was the Chief Guest and Mr. Jimmy Tangree and Ms. Sohini Das Hartmann were the Guests of Honour.

The Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour were felicitated by the Director, Dr. Satyajit Chakraborty of IEM with flower bouquets, mementoes & gifts and were asked to enlighten the students with their inspiring words.

Mr. Rajendra Khandelwal is currently the President, Calcutta Chamber of Commerce, and Consul of Niger & Managing Director, Dhanwantary Medicare & Research Centre Pvt. Ltd. He is an ‘entrepreneur’ & an ‘author’ as well. With this stimulating background Mr. Khandelwal is a man to listen to. He enlightened everybody with anecdotes from his life experience, how he started his famous ventures, Dhanwantary Medicare & Research Centre, and finally told the students to follow their hearts with of course permission from mind.

People were awestruck when Ms. Sohini Das Hartmann started speaking; presently the “Cultural Affairs Specialist” of Public Affairs section, US Consulate, she has been serving the American Centre, Kolkata for many years; prior to that she served as a teacher at Sri Sikshayatan School, Kolkata. Through a beautiful story telling ballet on Rabindranath Tagore, Ms. Sohini Hartman tried to convey us “the celebration of life”.

To conclude was Jimmy Tangree who made everyone feel happy & enthusiastic with his inspiring stories. With a typical story telling style Mr. Tangree shared with us about his experience with Radio & FM. He spoke about radio being the medium to communicate and spread awareness, and how people get help generously once appealed to.

He started his career in February 1994, he was approached to be a part of a private radio station and on July 26, 1994, with no background or knowledge of radio, he did his first LIVE broadcast from the studios of AIR.

He shared with us about his amazing experience which was unforgettable for him. His first two words, “Good Morning”, overloaded the mixer and the transmitter tripped and he went off air for a minute. That’s how he started his radio career. Direct Dilse is the show he conducts on 91.9 Friends FM. He is presently the head of 91.9 Friends FM.

Soon after the inaugural ceremony the most outstanding element of the entire fest were the ‘photography’ and artwork with which the entire campus was decorated in varied themes displaying over 160 photographs from different corners of the city stimulating creativity as well as excellence simultaneously.

The “Lens Flare Competition” was a picturesque display of photographs; it was exhibited by students’ captured natural photographs.

The ‘photography exhibition’ was inaugurated by Jimmy Tangree followed by 91.9 Friends FM & Facebook Live coverage; the exhibition was a huge success in itself. It was in fact highly impressive to see the talents showcased by the Management students.

Day 1 (April 6, 2019) of SRJAN started with Trade-Bate: The Business Debate;

2 members per team (8 teams) took part. The competition was a tough one. Winner & First Runner up Prizes were given to 2 best teams; 2 best speakers were given certificates.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Former Sheriff of Kolkata, emiritus Professor of IISWBM, Mr. Utpal Chatterjee was the moderator of the event Debate.

Ms. Mona Sengupta, Founder & Director, AHAVA Communications was the judge of the event.

She works in the fields of Books, Literature, Performing Arts, Education, Theatre, Music, Culture and socio-economic Issues.

The Second much awaited students’ event, for Day 1 (April 6, 2019) was MUN; MUN followed by Trust & Guess, Elevator’s Speech, Logo Design, Graffiti, Business Plan & Ad-Venting (Ad Making) competitions. Each event came out to be successful and full of participants.

The Model United Nations (MUN) – The event recreated a model parliament with speakers discussing about global problems. Issues of different nations like India, Iran, were discussed.

Business Plan: The B-plan witnessed some out of the box ideas, which if gets implemented in real lives can change a lot to our society.

It was a significant representation of the hard work, harmony, order and frugality of the people, and of the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation that competitions like Trust & Guess, Elevator’s Speech, Logo Design, Graffiti, Business Plan & Ad-Venting. Elevator speech: Students displayed convincing power and management skills to convince renowned celebrities in Elevator to market their ideas.

 

The evening of Day 1 was however something called ‘nostalgia’, ‘recollection’ & ‘reminisce’. It was the Alumni Meet (Down Memory Lane) for all former Management students. Laughter & Tears went hand in hand as all past students met their favourite faculty members and dear juniors. Alumni Meet was a grand success in itself with lots of fun & frolic and most importantly DJ Music.

Day 2 (April 7, 2019) of SRJAN started with MUN followed by Bioscope: The Short Film Competition organized by the MBA students. Numerous colleges participated with their Short films to receive appreciation from famous television & theatre personality Ms. Sudipa Basu.

 

 

The day ended with breathtaking ‘cultural ‘performances by MBA students both in-house & out-house and all participants including other colleges like Srisikshayatan College, Techno India, Saltlake, George College, Amity University, Adamas University, University of Engineering & Management (UEM) among others. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the event.

The entire Dance Competition of the Cultural Event was judged by famous film & television actress & social activist, Ms. Debolina Dutt Mukherjee.

Parallel with SRJAN 2K19 another event, organized by students, which is worth mentioning, was the Food Fest. Nearly 6 stalls with various eatery counters were opened up not only to satisfy one’s tongue & stomach but also to hone certain marketing & managerial skills as well.

Institute of Engineering & Management, Management House campus had witnessed the highest number of footfalls this year in SRJAN 2K19 and has made a benchmark regarding its college fests. The feedback of the participants was very positive and encouraging.

SRJAN 2K19 was a super success this year. Working together during this period, individuals contributed specialized talents and skills for building a well-planned community in a hostile environment. Community and individuality, created the persistent symbol of integrity. We do hope to continue scaling new heights in the years to come.
